Celebrate Earth Day

Today is Earth Day, and in the spirit of the day, here are a few ideas to help you celebrate...

  • Give a friend a plant in a container you saved from the landfill.  Just about anything can be turned into a pot so long as it has drainage holes or you are able drill drainage holes.  Metal pails, wagons, boots, or anything else that can hold soil make great conversation pieces!

  • Encourage fellow gardeners to compost if they don't already.

  • Help a friend, neighbor or family member put in a vegetable garden.  Many yards have unused spaces that are perfect for vegetable plots!

  • Think about what you put in the garbage can.  Can it be composted?  Can it be reused?  Can it be recycled?  Can it be donated?  Keep what you can out of the landfills.

  • Make the switch from synthetic pesticides and herbicides, go organic!

  • Take a few extra minutes on a walk to pick up garbage from the sidewalk around the neighborhood.

  • Use reusable tote bags instead of plastic bags at the grocery store.

If every did even just a little bit, all those little bits end up in a big, big change!
