Peppermint

Mentha piperita

Peppermint is a hybrid of watermint and spearmint and has aromatic leaves. It is used as an herb, flavoring and teas.  It is also known for its medicinal uses.  Peppermint oil also deters ants and some other insects.

Considered Invasive.

Classification: Perennial
Height: 1-3 feet
Sow: Early Spring after danger of frost
Germination Time: 7 to 21 days

Prefers part sun to shade and lots of water.

Ideally, peppermint should be planted in containers.  Given good growing conditions, peppermint will spread rapidly.

Flowers: Purple

Thrives in moist soil.

Hardy in Zones 4 to 8.
